Autumn for those of us in the northern hemisphere, is traditionally a time for new beginnings and fresh starts (along with some new stationery of course). To me Autumn always feels like a very energetic time of year full of potential, ideas and exciting opportunities.
And for the property market, it is also often the busiest time of year with a lot of activity crammed into a few months, mainly because Christmas seems to represent a deadline for many buyers as the time they want to be settled into their new house.
This summer the property market in southwest France has been particularly slow, probably a consequence of political uncertainty, financial conditions and the very hot weather which has seen most of us lacking in much energy or motivation to do very much.
It is still beautiful weather here and hot during the day, but the evenings have a slight chill now and nights are cool. Together with cooler temperatures, there is always new energy in the air at the time of La Rentrée when schools start back, and the holiday season is officially over. The signs are also starting to look good for the property market and already agents are starting to call again to tell me about exciting new houses that they have coming onto their books in the next few weeks.
